SAN ANTONIO ? Senior goalkeeper Rachel Franciscollected her eighth career shutout and sophomore forward AllisonDillon scored two goals to lead the UTSA soccer team past TexasSouthern, 7-0, on Friday night at the UTSA Rec Sports Complex.
“It was a great win for us in front of our homecrowd.” UTSA head coach Steve Ballard said. “Being able to see ouryoung players get the playing time, in order to be ready when calledupon at any given time.”
UTSA (2-1) went up 2-0 within the first 20 minutes ofthe match on Dillon’s back-to-back goals. Junior forward VeronicaNajera netted her second winner of the season at the 25-minutemark of the first half. Freshman forward Taylor Padia then putthe Roadrunners up 4-0 with her first collegiate goal at the 36-minutemark.
The Birds pushed their lead 5-0 on freshmanHannah Collazo’s header off a pass freshman Lauren Schultz in the 65th minute. Junior midfielder Kari Weilandcollected her first goal of the season, as she put it in the net from25 yards out and give the Roadrunners a 6-0 cushion, while freshmanforward Sheri Olayiwola added the seventh goal of the night a minutelater.
UTSA recorded a school-record 32 shots and tied the program mark for most goals in a game with seven.
Najera and Schultz tallied two helpers apiece on the night. Weiland and Collazo each hada team-high five shots and Dillon and junior forward Jenny Munoz hadfour shots apiece.
The Roadrunners return to action on Sunday against Texas Tech at UTSA Rec Sports Complex. Kickoff is slated for noon.
