Adams hired as track & field assistant coach on Monday

Chris Adams

SAN ANTONIO ? UTSA Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Aaron Fox announced Monday the addition of Chris Adams as an assistant coach. Adams, who has spent the last four years at Texas State, will work with the program’s throwers (shot put, discus, hammer, javelin and weight throw) and his hiring rounds out this year’s coaching staff.

“I'm excited to be at a place that is on the rise in the Southland Conference, regionally and nationally,” Adams said. “Coach Fox has done so many great things in a short amount of time and I'm looking forward to help the program continue its success."

In his four seasons in San Marcos, Adams coached Abigail Ruston to 2007 NCAA Outdoor All-America honors in the shot put (second place) and Sara Stultz earned 2006 Southland Conference Track & Field Student-Athlete of the Year accolades. All told, Bobcats athletes set five league records and won a total of 14 individual championships under his direction.

“Chris had a very successful career as a student-athlete and that has carried over to his coaching career,” Fox said. “I’ve had the opportunity to watch him the last two years and he’s done a tremendous job. I’m excited to add him to the staff and am looking forward to seeing what he can accomplish here with the resources we have.”

Adams was a two-time All-American in both the shot and hammer at Ashland (Ohio) University. The Findlay, Ohio native earned his bachelor’s degree from Ashland in recreation administration after beginning his career at Kent State, where he was an all-conference performer from 1998-2000. He also earned a silver medal for Team USA at the 2002 North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) Under-25 Track & Field Championships was a 2004 Olympic Trials qualifier in the shot put.
