Anderson tabbed EA SPORTS All-American

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. ? UTSA softball signee Amber Anderson has been named to the EA SPORTS All-American Softball second team. She is one of only 60 high school players from across the country and one of six from the state of Texas chosen to the first or second team.

Anderson was a standout pitcher and outfielder at Alvin High School under head coach Carla Newsome for the past four seasons. She recently capped her senior season by helping the Yellow Jackets win the Class 5A state title and was named Class 5A Player of the Year by both the Texas Sportswriters Association and Texas Girls Coaches Association. The left-hander posted an 18-4 record and 0.34 earned run average and tossed 14 shutout innings in the state tournament in the circle, while she batted .386 with 24 runs batted in at the plate. Anderson picked up numerous additional postseason awards, including Class 5A State Tournament Most Valuable Player, Houston Chronicle All-Greater Houston Player of the Year and Brazoria County Player of the Year and received the Josh Beckett Award from the RBI Foundation as the top prep pitcher in the Houston area this past January.

“This is quite an honor for Amber to be named one of the top 60 players in the country,” UTSA head coach Lori Cook said. “She’s very deserving of this award and we’re very proud of all of her accomplishments this year. We look forward to her arrival on campus in a couple of weeks.”

Anderson set school records for single-season victories (28) and runs batted in (37) as a junior in 2007. A three-time all-district selection and the 2005 District 24-5A Newcomer of the Year, she was named first-team all-state, All-Greater Houston and all-district last year. She also plays summer ball for the Texas Eclipse under head coach Ken Glass.
