SAN ANTONIO ? UTSA Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Aaron Fox announced Tuesday the hiring of Virginia Coindreau as an assistant coach. Coindreau will help cross country coach Scott Slade in addition to working with the program’s distance runners.

The Georgetown native comes to the Alamo City after coaching the past two seasons at Adams State College in Alamosa, Colo. She served as a volunteer coach in in 2006-07 and as a graduate assistant this past year, working with the cross country and distance contingent.

“I am looking forward to being a part of Coach Fox’s program,” Coindreau said. “UTSA is a great school and there are a lot of exciting things going on. I can’t wait to be a part of it and make a difference.”

Coindreau was a four-year letterwinner from 2001-05 in both cross country and track & field at at Adams State. She was a member of the Grizzlies’ 2005 NCAA Division II Champion distance medley relay squad and a nine-time All-American. Coindreau also helped lead the cross country team to back-to-back National Championships in 2003-04.

“I am excited to bring Virginia on board to help with the cross country and distance programs,” Fox said. “Both she and Coach Slade come from the same training background, so I know they will be on the same page. With the two of them on the staff, I know we can accomplish great things with both the men and the women.”

Coindreau graduated from Adams State in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in both biology and psychology.
