Pair of men?s tennis players enjoy summer success

SAN ANTONIO ? Freshman Max Stratmann and recent graduate Adam Becker are enjoying success on the tennis courts this summer.

Stratmann, who just finished his first season with the Roadrunners, competed at the Bitburger Tennis Grand Prix Trier on June 23 in Trier, Germany. He advanced to the semifinals of the doubles main draw before bowing out, 6-1, 6-3, to Pete Torebko and Holger Zuehlsdorff-Pavlovic. With his performance at the Bitburger Tennis Grand Prix, Stratmann has earned a ATP world ranking of 1,438.

Meanwhile, Becker, who recently completed his playing career at UTSA, played in the Waegwoltic Masters in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and the Challenger Pre-Qualifier held at Moncton, Nova Scotia. Becker was tabbed as the No. 1 seed in both events.

Becker captured the Men’s Singles Title at the Waegwoltic Masters. The Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, native cruised into the semis after dealing Ben Morris a 6-0, 6-0 loss. Becker then won his second individual title at the Challenger Pre-Qualifier. Becker opened the day with a straight-set win (6-4, 7-6) over Louis Blanchette, then moved to the finals with a 6-4, 6-4 victory against Jamie Lawlor. He then handed Phil Anderson a 6-4, 6-4 decision en route to picking up the championship. Becker also qualified for the Challenger Tournament.
