Sophomore Krista Sitka collected three hits and three RBIs on Friday.

SAN ANTONIO ? Leah Boatright’s two-run homer capped a five-run rally by Texas State over the final two innings, as the Bobcats won game two of a Southland Conference doubleheader over UTSA, 8-6, on Friday evening at Roadrunner Field. Sophomore Krista Sitka went 2-for-3 in the opener, but Ragan Blake held the Roadrunners to just three hits in a 5-1 victory, as the Bobcats improved to 25-11 overall and 15-2 in league play, while UTSA fell to 18-17 and 13-7.

UTSA erased an early 1-0 deficit with a six-run third inning in the nightcap. Senior Kourtney Jones drew a one-out walk and scored on freshman Whitney Balch’s double down the left field line. Senior Lindsay Perry, who was 2-for-3, dropped down a bunt single and sophomore Kelly Cato plated Balch on a single up the middle. An infield single by Rudi Cantu, an error and a groundout pushed across two more runs, while Sitka drilled a two-run double to left center gave the Roadrunners a 6-1 lead.

Texas State picked up a run in the third and fifth on RBI-doubles by Boatright, who finished 4-for-5 with tree two-baggers and five RBIs.

The Bobcats plated three runs in the top of the seventh to force extra frame. Another double from Boatright, an RBI-single by Taylor Hall and a bases-loaded walk to Jill Kloesel did the damage and set up Boatright’s two-run blast in the top of the eighth.

Elizabeth Dennis (3-0) scattered three hits in six and one-third scoreless innings to earn the win in relief of Katie Garnett. Senior Amanda Nikolenko (10-10) gave up two runs in one and two-thirds frames in relief in the loss.

McKenzie Baack went 3-for-4 and Blake struck out seven to help Texas State win the opener, 5-1.

The Bobcats struck first with an unearned run in the top of the first. Kristina Tello reachd on an error, moved to second on an illegal pitch and third on a sacrifice bunt, before scoring on another illegal pitch.

UTSA manufactured a run in the bottom of the frame. Cantu led off with an infield single, advanced to second on a sac bunt by junior Leanne Risberg and scored on a two-out single up the middle by Sitka.

After a couple of scoreless innings, Texas State used a three-run fourth, highlighted by a two-run single by Ashton Peters, to take a 4-1 advantage. Baack added to the lead with a solo homer in the top of the seventh.

Nikolenko allowed just two earned runs and struck out six against zero walks in the loss.

Game three is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday. Former player Jessica Rogers will have her jersey (No. 29) retired prior to the game.
