NACOGDOCHES ? The No. 3 seed UTSA men’s tennis team's season came to an end with a 4-0 loss against top seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the 2008 Southland Conference Tournament final.
The Islanders (14-5) took the early lead 1-0 after winning two of the three doubles matches. The Roadrunners (11-12) jumped on A&M-Corpus Christi when sophomore Rodrigo Morgado and freshman Daniel Moreiras won the first doubles match 8-5 over Laurent Montoisy and James Langford at No. 2. However, Jose Zunino and Jan Cingel evened things up when they handed junior Robin Fernandes and freshman Max Stratmann a 8-6 setback at the No. 3 slot. The doubles point was decided at the top spot with the Islanders collecting a 9-7 win.
In singles action, A&M Corpus Christi upped its lead to 2-0 when Zunino handed Moreiras a 6-2, 6-3 loss at the No. 5 position. The Islanders then took a commanding 3-0 lead after Montoisy defeated Morgado in straight sets (6-3, 6-3) at the top spot. Mike Pavlov clinched the match with a 6-3, 7-6 win over Fernandes at the No. 3 slot.
