Williams, 400-meter relay squad advance at Penn Relays

Sophomore Teddy Williams advanced to the finals in the 100-meter dash and helped the 400-meter relay move on to Saturday’s final rounds at the 114th running of the Penn Relay Carnival held Friday at Franklin Field.

Williams sped to a 10.52 clocking to finish a narrow second in his preliminary heat behind LSU’s Gabriel Mvumvure. His time was fifth overall and he will run in the final at 3:40 p.m. (CT) on Saturday.

In the 4x100m prelims, Williams ran the second leg, along with senior Cedric Harris, freshman John Matthews and senior Steven Brown, as the quartet finished third in their heat in 40.82 behind Florida (39.94) and Mississippi State (40.50). The time was the 15th-fastest in the 87-team field and puts them in the College final at 12:35 p.m. (CT) on Saturday.

Brown also competed in the 100m prelims, crossing the tape in 10.73 for 15th overall.
