AUSTIN ? Senior Steven Brown won the long jump to lead four Roadrunners who placed among the top five and a quintet of athletes recorded top-three performances to highlight the UTSA men's track & field team's day of action at Saturday's Texas Twilight at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Brown registered an NCAA Regional-qualifying wind-adided mark of 24-1 1/2 (7.35m) in defeating a field of 11 competitiors. Freshman P.J. McGowen (23-0 1/2w/7.03m) placed second and freshman Vince Abron (21-9/6.63m) and sophomore Marcus Bibles (21-8 3/4/6.62m) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Bibles and senior Luke Johnson were strong in the field, as both posted second-place efforts in their respective field events.

Bibles cleared an NCAA Regional and personal-best 6-10 3/4 (2.10m) in the high jump, while Johnson launched the hammer a season-long 169-0 (51.51m) and tossed the shot put 59-3 1/4 (16.39m). The Amarillo native went on to place fifth in the discus (153-4/46.75m) in between his second-place efforts.

Sophomore Teddy Williams sprinted to a third-place effort, tops among collegians, in the 200-meter dash when he crossed the tape in an NCAA Regional 21.07. That mark is more than a quarter second faster than any time recorded in the Southland Conference this season. Brown ran the turn in 21.42 for a sixth-place showing and was just seven one-hundredths of a second shy of qualifying for next month's regional meet in Lincoln, Neb.

Other bronze medal performances on the day included freshman Brandon Chuiminetta in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:31.97) and first-year performer Terrence Watson in the 400-meter hurdles (54.59). Both their times were personal bests.

Other highlights included sophomore Bryan Ugochukwu shaving nearly a half second off his career best in the 800 meters. Ugochukwu stopped the clock in 1:53.78 (seventh place), which ranks third on the conference's leader board.

Meanwhile, junior Tommy Wolfe recorded the team's top mark in the pole vault this year when he cleared 16-0 3/4 (4.90m) in finishing eighth. That mark tied Russell Dauphin's seven-year-old school record.

The Roadrunners are back in action at a pair of meets next week. Partof the squad will travel to Houston for Thursday's Rice Twilight and the remainder of the team will head to the East Coast to compete at next weekend's pretiguous Penn Relays in Philadelphia. The two events will be UTSA's final tuneup for the SLC Outdoor Championships, which are scheduled for May 9-10 in Huntsville.
