SAN ANTONIO ? The UTSA men’s tennis team clinched the No. 3 seed at next week's Southland Conference Tournament with a 6-1 win against Texas Pan-American on Saturday at the UTSA Tennis Center.
The Roadrunners (9-11, 3-3 SLC) swept all three doubles matches to take the early 1-0 lead over the Broncs (7-11, 2-4 SLC).
UTSA then won five of the six singles matches to clinch the five-point victory.
Junior Andre Moreira cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Ivan Avila at the No. 2 position. Meanwhile, freshman Max Stratmann gave the Roadrunners a commanding 3-0 edge after coming of the court with a straight-sets win (6-2, 6-3) against Shashank Vij at No. 6. Sophomore Rodrigo Morgado clinched the match with his 7-5, 6-2 triumph over Ashwin Vijayaragavan at the top spot. Junior Robin Ferenandes and freshman Daniel Moreiras also collected victories on the day.
The Roadrunners travel to Nacogdoches next Friday to face sixth-seeded Nicholls State. First serve is slated for 3 p.m.
