The UTSA women’s tennis team won a 4-3 thriller at SamHouston State in Southland Conference action on Saturday.

The Roadrunners improved to 8-12 overall and evened their record in conference play to 5-5. Meanwhile, the Bearkats dropped to 6-14 and 5-5in the league.

UTSA collected the doubles point by winning two of the threematches. After losing 8-3 at the No. 1 spot, freshman Caroline Dederingand junior Monika Drabkova evened things up with their 8-5 triumph over RoxanaMartinez and Stasa Vujosevic at the No. 2 position. The Roadrunners clinched thetally when sophomore Holly Phillips and junior Nathalie Wallincollected an 8-6 triumph at No. 3.

UTSA increased its lead to 2-0 when Wallin cruised pastEleonora Kuruc (6-0, 6-2) at the No. 2 slot. Martinezpulled Sam Houston State within on with her straight-sets win (6-0, 6-2) over junior EvaSilvester at the No. 6 spot. However, back-to-back wins by Phillips and Dederingat the No. 4 and No. 5 positions, respectively, clinched the match for theRoadrunners.

UTSA concludes its regular season at Stephen F. Austin on Sunday.
