UTSA races to 400-meter relay school record at last weekend's Texas Relays

AUSTIN ? A school record by the 400-meter relay team and six NCAA Regional qualifying marks highlighted the UTSA men's track & field team's four days of action at last weekend's 81st annual Clyde LIttlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

The quartet of senior Will Vese, sophomore Teddy Williams, senior CedricHarris and senior Steven Brown circled the oval ina school-record and NCAA Regional time of 39.84 on Saturday afternoon to place fifth. The foursome also recorded a regional time, 40.38, in finishing second in the first preliminary heat on Friday morning.

Williams also was strong in the 100 meters, as he posted a pair of regional marks en route to a fourth-place effort in the university division finals. The Tyler native clocked a wind-aided NCAA Regional time of 10.55 in Friday's prelims. He then bettered that mark with a 10.38 reading in the finals, which ranks fourth on UTSA's all-time performance chart.

Vese continued his solid campaign in the university division of the 110-meter hurdles. The Houston native sped to a windy regional mark of 14.02 in his preliminary heat on Friday, which was his third qualifying time of the season. He went on to finish eighth in Saturday's final (14.34).

Meanwhile, sophomore Johnathan Whittaker had a fourth-place performance in the university/college B division of the high jump when he cleared an NCAA Regional and season-best 6-10 ?/2.10m.

The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday when they travel to Kingsville for the Javelina Open.
