SAN ANTONIO ? The UTSA men's track & field team returns to action this weekend when it travels to Houston for the Victor Lopez Bayou Classic. The two-day meet kicks off on Friday morning at Rice Track Stadium and runs through the following afternoon.
The Roadrunners are off to a successful start to the 2008 outdoor campaign. The squad claimed seven gold medals at the season-opening UTSA Relays two weeks ago and added three more wins at last weekend's Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables, Fla.
Leading the way for UTSA is senior Will Vese, the reigning Southland Conference Athlete of the Week. The Houston native has posted back-to-back victories in the 110-meter hurdles, including a school, meet and stadium-record 13.81w last Saturday. He also has a pair of NCAA Regional qualifying marks this season.
Other Roadrunners who have qualified for the NCAA Midwest Regional in Lincoln, Neb., include senior Steven Brown (100 meters) and freshman P.J. McGowen (high jump).
