CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Senior Will Vese won his second 110-meters hurdles title in as many weeks and broke Carl Johnson's four-year-old school record in the process to highlight the UTSA men's track & field team final day of action at the Hurricane Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
The Houston native stopped the clock in 13.81w to break Johnson's former mark of 13.84 set during the 2004 campaign. Vese, who won his heat by just one one-hundredth of a second, broke the meet and stadium standards and also posted his second NCAA Regional qualifying mark of the year.
Other top performances of the day included seniors Eric Miller and Luke Johnson, junior Tommy Wolfe and sophomore Bryan Ugochukwu.
Miller raced to a 4:05.41 in finishing second in the 1,500 meters, while Ugochukwu stopped the clock in 1:57.63 to place fifth in the 800m.
Johnson led the Roadrunners field contingent with a fourth-place showing in the hammer (165-10/50.55m). Meanwhile, Wolfe set a personal best with his fifth-place leap of 22-3 (6.78m) in the long jump.
UTSA is back in action next weekend when it competes at the two-day Victor Lopez Bayou Classic in Houston. Competition gets underway on Friday, March 28.
