CONWAY, Ark. ? Sophomore right-hander Ryan Proudfoot gave up just one run over six strong innings and sophomore closer Zach Calhoon held Central Arkansas scoreless the rest of the way, as UTSA salvaged the third and final game of this weekend's Southland Conference series at UCA Field with a 2-1 victory.

The Roadrunners snapped a two-game losing streak to improve to 15-8 overall and 4-2 in league play, while the Bears dropped to 10-12 (2-4 SLC).

Proudfoot (4-0) blanked UCA for 5.2 frames to extend his unearned runs streak to 14.1 innings. However, Central Arkansas ended that stretch in the sixth with a two-out rally that saw a pair of doubles sandwiched around a single to left. The Lindale native ? who retired eight in a row between the second and fifth stanzas ? gave up just five hits, walked two and struck out five in the 94-pitch outing.

Calhoon was called in from the bullpen to start the seventh and he retired the first seven hitters he faced before issuing a pair of walks in the final inning. However, the Spring native, who fanned four, got Tye Throneberry to ground out to junior shortstop James Keithley to secure the one-run victory. It was the fourth save of the year for the right-hander and it pushed his career total to 10, which is only one behind UTSA career leader Lucas Stewart (2003-04).

The Roadrunners got on the board in the third when senior Phillip Allen reached first base on an error by Bears starter Jeremy Cloud. Allen popped up a bunt on the first pitch he saw, but Cloud dropped it. Keithley followed with a base hit that ricocheted off Cloud and sophomore Tim Palincsar loaded the bases when he dropped a perfect bunt down the third-base line for an infield single. Junior Michael Rockett then hit a sacrifice fly to right field that brought home Allen.

The lead swelled to 2-0 two innings later when Rockett hit a one-out double down the left-field line and junior Jose Hernandez stroked a two-out single two batters later to bring Rockett across the dish.

Keithley was 2-for-4 and he extended his hitting streak to 10 games, which is his second 10-gamer this season. Palincsar and freshman Tyler Carpenter moved their hit streaks to nine and eight games, respectively.

Cloud (0-1) was tagged with the loss after allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits over five innings. He walked two and fanned five. Reece Cross gave up just one hit and punched out four in holding UTSA scoreless in the final four frames,

The Roadrunners are back in action when they return to the Alamo City for a five-game home stand that begins on Tuesday night against No. 20 Texas A&M (17-6). First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Wolff Stadium and it will be UTSA's final contest of the year at the home of the Double A San Antonio Missions.
