SAN ANTONIO ? Coming off a six-victory showing at the UTSA Relays lastweekend, the UTSA women’s track & field team will travel to Tucson,Ariz., to compete in the Willie Williams Classic held thisFriday-Saturday, March 21-22, at Roy P. Drachman Stadium.
The two-day event gets underway with the Dave Murray Distance Carnivalat 4:30 p.m. on Friday, followed by a full slate of action on Saturdaybeginning at 9 a.m. The Roadrunners will go head-to-head with athletesfrom Air Force, Arizona, BYU, LSU and Utah State. UTSA won six events at the ninth annual UTSA Relays last weekend atBlossom Stadium. Sophomore Dana Mecke pulled off the middle-distancedouble by winning the 800 meters in a personal-best time of 2:14.99 onFriday night, following with a 4:44.89 to take top honors in the 1,500mon Saturday. The 4x100-meter relay quartet of junior ShanelleSlaughter, senior Brittany Epps, sophomore Jessica Jones and juniorAshley Jackson clocked a 46.88 for first, while the 4x400m relay teamof Epps and freshmen Kim Brooks, Lauren Wilson and Shavonne Armbristercruised to a 3:51.61 for gold. Jones clocked a 1:02.72 to win the 400mhurdles and joined Epps, Slaughter and Jackson for first place in the4x200m relay in 1:40.08.
