LITTLE ROCK, Ark. ? Led by a 29th-place showing from senior ShaneCostelloe, the UTSA men’s golf team finished 12th at the UALR/First TeeCollegiate held Monday-Tuesday, March 17-18, at Chenal Country Club(par 72 / 7,221 yards).
UTSA carded rounds of 320, 316 and 298 for a 54-hole total of 934 toplace 12th, just one shot back of Northern Illinois and Stephen F.Austin for 10th. Sam Houston State won the team title with an 893,followed by Central Arkansas (899), UMKC (911), UALR (912), MissouriState (914), Louisiana-Monroe (918), Oral Roberts (922), Louisiana Tech(925) and Arkansas State (927). Arkansas-Fort Smith (949), NorthernColorado (959) and Centenary (1018) rounded out the field.
Costelloe followed his day-one 80-77?157 with a two-over-par 74 onTuesday to tie for 29th with a 231. Sophomore Phillip Hui was closebehind in a tie for 35th with a 79-81-74?234, while sophomore SimonMerry tied for 42nd with an 80-81-75?236. Senior Thomas Kearney(81-77-83?241) and junior Kyle Collins (83-83-75?241) tied for 57th.
Gideon Pienaar of Central Arkansas fired a 75-73-71?219 to earn individual medalist honors.
The Roadrunners return to the course next Monday-Tuesday, March 24-25,when they travel to Springfield, La., to compete in the CarterPlantation Intercollegiate.
