Sophomore Ryan Proudfoot improved to 3-0 with 7.2 strong innings on Sunday.

SAN ANTONIO ? Sophomore right-hander Ryan Proudfoot allowed just an unearned run over 7.2 strong innings and three Roadrunners had two hits apiece to lead UTSA to a 4-1 victory against McNeese State on Sunday afternoon at Roadrunner Field.

UTSA, which swept the Cowboys for the second year in a row to open the Southland Conference slate, improved to 12-5 overall and won for the 19th time in its last 22 home games, including 12 of its past 13 contests played at the Bird Bath.

Proudfoot, who improved his season record to a perfect 3-0, gave up just five hits and three walks while striking out three. The Lindale native retired 12 of 13 batters at one point, including seven in a row from the fifth through seventh frames.

Sophomore closer Zach Calhoon held McNeese State scoreless over the final inning-and-a-third to earn his second save of the year and the eighth of his career (T-No. 3 on UTSA's career chart). The right-hander surrendered a pair of hits and punched two in lowering his season ERA to 1.12 (eight innings).

Sacrifice flies by junior right fielder Jose Hernandez in the second and sophomore designated hitter Tim Palincsar one inning later gave UTSA an early 2-0 lead.

The Roadrunners tacked on a pair in the fifth on junior second baseman James Keithley's run-scoring single to left and senior first baseman Trent Lockwood's RBI double down the right-field line.

Keithley, Lockwood and freshman right fielder Tyler Carpenter all had two hits for UTSA.

Frantz (0-4) tossed the Pokes' first compete game of the season, The righty scattered seven hits, walked two and fanned four in the 115-pitch performance.

Josh Cholley went 2-for-2 with a walk and scored McNeese's lone run.

The Roadrunners host No. 10 Texas (12-5) at 6 p.m. on Monday at WolffStadium. Junior southpaw Kris Ruepke (1-1, 12.38 ERA) will get the start for UTSA and the Longhorns will send lefty Riley Boening (0-0, 2.25) to the hill.
