SAN ANTONIO ? The UTSA women’s track & field team won three more events on Saturday at the UTSA Relays, bringing their total to six for the two-meet event held at Blossom Stadium.
Sophomore Dana Mecke completed the middle distance double by taking top honors in the metric mile after winning the 800m on Friday. She stopped the watch in a time of 4:44.89 to give the Southland Conference Indoor 800m champion a third crown in two weeks of outdoor competition.
The 400-meter relay quartet of junior Shanelle Slaughter, senior Brittany Epps, sophomore Jessica Jones and junior Ashley Jackson passed the baton around the track in 46.88 to edge SLC rivals Texas State (47.05) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (48.02).
The 1,600m team of Epps and freshmen Kim Brooks, Lauren Wilson and Shavonne Armbrister cruised to a 3:51.61 clocking to finish first among collegiate entries and second overall behind an unattached foursome that crossed in 3:47.26.

"Overall, we had a very solid meet," said head coach James Blackwood, who announced Thursday his retirement following the season and was honored during today's opening ceremony. "Dana Mecke had another outstanding race in the middle distances and our relays performed really well. It was hot and windy both days, but we still saw some very good performances for this early in the outdoor season."
Armbrister was the top collegian in the 400m with a 58.35 clocking, placing fourth overall behind two unattached runners ? Ebonie Floyd (53.91) and Kiesha Howard (55.82) ? and Quasheba Lee of Speed Koncept (56.07).
Jones was the top collegian in the 100m hurdles with a 14.21 effort, finishing second behind former All-American Ryanne Dupree’s 13.50.
Senior Chelsea Malina measured 111-5 in the javelin to finish third overall and second among collegians behind Kelli VanVleet of Texas State (125-11) and Dupree (120-6).
A trio of freshmen also posted third-place showings, as Aimee Jonas scored 4,193 points in the heptathlon, Rebekah Hill skipped to a 37-3 ? mark in the triple jump and Adrienne Bocanegra hurled the discus 125-11.
