SAN ANTONIO ? Fresh off winning its third consecutive Southland Conference Indoor Championship, the UTSA men's track & field team opens its 2008 outdoor campaign this weekend at the UTSA Relays.
More than 2,000 high school, college and professional athletes willconverge on the Alamo City, as the ninth annual event will beheld this Friday-Saturday at the Blossom Athletics Center.
Thetwo-day event kicks off with the first event in the women’s heptathlonat 11 a.m. on Friday and continues through Saturday evening. TheRoadrunners will compete against athletes from Houston Baptist, Incarnate Word, Southwest Christian. Sul Ross State, TexasA&M-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas State and Trinity.

Twenty-six athletes arescheduled to compete for the Roadrunners, led by 2006 NCAA qualifiers Steven Brown and Will Vese and school record-holders Brown (long jump), Luke Johnson (hammer) and Alton St. Rose (triple jump).
Sincefinishing fourth at the 2004 SLC Outdoor Championships, UTSA has improved its standing at the conference meet in each of the past three years. The Roadrunners placed third in 2005 before finishing second the past two seasons. Aaron Fox's squad will attempt to accomplish the first sweep in school history this spring.
