Williams earns invitation to this weekend's NCAA Indoor Championships

Sophomore Teddy Williams will attempt to become the fifth All-American in UTSA history this weekend.

SAN ANTONIO ? Sophomore Teddy Williams was one of 16 60-meter sprinters invited late Monday night to compete at this weekend's NCAA Indoor Championships. The two-day meet will take place on Friday and Saturday at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.

The Tyler native set a Southland Conference record with his winning time of 6.66 at the season-opening Houston Opener on Jan. 12. Williams, who has won his last three meets, went on to capture the first Southland Conference Championship in school history when he stopped the clock in 6.71 on Feb. 23. A day earlier in the semifinals, he set a SLC meet record with his mark of 6.67. All told, Williams has clocked six NCAA provisional times this year and has done so in his last four races.

"Teddy has had an incredible indoor season," head coach Aaron Fox said. "This is a product of hard work, listening to his coaches and being determined and focused. Making it to the national meet as a sophomore is a huge stepping stone for him. If he follows his game plan this weekend, I think he will do very well."

He will attempt to become the fifth All-American in school history and the fourth in the last five years (Justin Youngblood 2004; Brandon Buteaux 2005; Larry Brooks 2007).

The preliminary heats are scheduled for 6:15 p.m. on Friday and thefinal is slated to be run at 7:15 p.m. the following evening.
