Junior Michael Rockett was a combined 6-for-7 during Saturday's doubleheader and hit for the first cycle in school history in the second game.
SAN ANTONIO ? UTSA used solid pitching and backed those performances with a combined 23 runs and 27 hits on offense to sweep Sacred Heart by scores of 7-0 (7 innings) and 16-2 in a Saturday doubleheader at Wolff Stadium.

Junior center fielder Michael Rockett went a collective 6-for-7 in the twin bill and his second game was highlighted by the first cycle in the program's 17-year history. Rockett, who performed the feat in the contest’s first four innings, began his record-setting effort with a double in the first inning. He then had a single in the second, a two-run homer in the third and capped off the day with a triple in the fourth. The Sugar Land native finished the game with a career-high six RBIs and is 9-for-12 with five extra-base hits (17 total bases) and eight RBIs in the series' first three games.

The Roadrunners, who now have won five of their last six since dropping the season opener to No. 40 Oral Roberts, pushed their 2008 record to 5-2, while the Pioneers remained winless on the year at 0-3.

Sophomore right-hander Ryan Proudfoot improved to 2-0 in the nightcap when he allowed a pair of runs on just three hits, while striking out five in six innings. Junior lefty Cody Graham tossed two scoreless frames in relief of Proudfoot and freshman right Chris Griffin tossed a perfect ninth.

The Roadrunners scored two runs in both the first and second frames before breaking open the contest with a seven-run third. UTSA went on to add another pair in the fourth and three more in the eighth to complete the 14-run rout.

Junior right fielder Aaron Powell was 4-for-5 with a triple, three runs scored and three RBIs, while freshman second baseman Ryan Hutson added a pair of base hits and two RBIs. Senior first baseman Trent Lockwood and junior shortstop also had two hits in the contest.

In game one, senior right-hander Bradley Chovanec tossed a four-hit shutout and he was backed by a balanced UTSA offense in a seven-run victory.

Chovanec (2-0) scattered four singles, struck out six and walked none in his first shutout as a Roadrunner. No Pioneer advanced past first base in the 74-pitch gem and the Burton native only had a pair of three-ball counts. He has opened his final season by allowing just one run on 11 hits in 14.2 innings pitched (0.61 ERA). Chovanec also has fanned 12 and walked none while holding opposing batters to a .212 batting average.

UTSA scored five runs in the second on five hits and added two moretallies in the third to give Chovanec all the offense he would need.

Keithley and Rockett had two hits each and sophomore Tim Palincsar drove in a pair to lead the Roadrunners offense.

The series concludes at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Junior southpaw Kris Ruepke (0-1) is slated to take the mound for the Roadrunners.
