THIBODAUX, La. ? The UTSA men’s tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision at Nicholls State on Saturday afternoon in its Southland Conference opener.

The Colonels (8-4, 1-1 SLC) opened the day by winning the doubles points at the No. 2 and No.3 slots.

The two squads split the six singles matches.

UTSA (2-8, 0-1 SLC) took a 2-1 lead when freshman Daniel Moreiras won his match 6-0, 6-0 over Sami Mouline at the No. 6 position and junior Andre Moreira collected a straight-sets victory (6-3, 6-1) at No. 5. Nicholls State tied the match at two after Vlad Popa handed freshman Max Stratmann a 6-3, 6-3 loss at the No. 3 spot. Senior Adam Becker then gave the Roadrunners a 3-2 advantage with his 7-6, 6-3 victory over Phenyo Matong at No. 4. The Colonels clinched the match with wins at the top two spots.

UTSA concludes its three-match road trip on Sunday at Southeastern Louisiana.
