SAN ANTONIO ? The UTSA women’s tennis team snapped its two-match losing streak with a 4-3 victory against Nicholls State in the Southland Conference opener for both squads on Saturday at the UTSA Tennis Center.
The Roadrunners improved to 3-5 overall, while the Lady Colonels (5-1) lost for the first time in 2008.
UTSA won two of the three doubles matches for the early 1-0 lead.
The two teams split the six of the singles matches.
Natalia Zomora knotted the match at one when she defeated junior Monika Drabkova 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 3 spot. Freshman Caroline Dedering put the Roadrunners up 2-1 when she came off the court with a victory at the No. 4 slot. Junior Eva Silvester pushed UTSA’s lead to 3-1 with a straight-sets win at No. 6. Junior Karen Scida clinched the match at the No. 1 position with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 victory against Florina Nosca.
The Roadrunners return to action on Sunday against Southeastern Louisiana.
