NACOGDOCHES ? Freshmen Devin Gibson and JohnMark Ludwick both reached double figures in scoring, but Matt Kingsley and Josh Alexander combined for 31 points, as Stephen F. Austin defeated UTSA, 60-39, on Saturday night at Johnson Coliseum.
Gibson scored 14 points to lead the Roadrunners (8-13, 2-6 SLC) in scoring for the ninth time this season and he also added three assists and two steals. Ludwick was 2-for-4 from the 3-point line en route to posting a dozen points.
Kingsley registered 17 points to lead the Lumberjacks (19-3, 7-2 SLC), while Alexander had 14 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Eric Bell added nine points and four dimes and Nick Shaw matched Alexander with a game-high eight boards.
UTSA, which had won six straight series meetings, shot just 33.3 percent and was outrebounded 40-18. The Lumberjacks shot 45.2 percent and led for 38 of the 40 minutes.
Gibson gave UTSA a 2-0 lead out of the gates on a layup, but Alexander answered with a 3-pointer at the 18:13 mark, giving the Jacks a lead they would never relinquish.
UTSA pulled within two at 15-13 with just under nine minutes to play in the half, but SFA scored six unanswered to start a 15-3 run that helped it to a 33-20 advantage at the break.
The Jacks increased their lead to 42-22 on another Alexander trey five minutes into the second half, but UTSA chipped away and pulled within 12 (49-37) with five minutes remaining in the game. However, SFA responded, ending the game on an 11-2 run to win in the series for the first time since Feb. 4, 2004.
The Roadrunners return to the road to face Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday, Feb. 14.
