Roadrunners to continue season-opening home stand this weekend

SAN ANTONIO ?UTSA, fresh off a 2-2 effort at last weekend's UTSA Baseball Classic, continues its season-opening 10-game home stand this weekend when it welcomes Sacred Heart to Wolff Stadium for a four-game series. It will mark the first action of the year for the Pioneers, who hail from Fairfield, Conn.

The action gets underway at 6 p.m. on Friday when senior right-hander Steven Vasquez (0-1, 4.15 ERA) takes the mound for the Roadrunners. The set continues with a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday. The first game of the twinbill is slated for seven innings and senior righty Bradley Chovanec (1-0, 1.17 ERA) will get the nod for UTSA. Sophomore right-hander Ryan Proudfoot (1-0, 1.80 ERA) will start the nine-inning nightcap. Sunday's finale is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. and junior southpaw Kris Ruepke (0-1) is tentatively scheduled to get the start.

Sophomore designated hitter Tim Palincsar leads the offense with a .467 batting average (7-15), while sophomore third baseman Ryan Rummel is swinging the bat at a .400 clip (6-15). Senior first baseman Trent Lockwood and junior center fielder Michael Rockett both have a team-high two doubles and Lockwood leads the squad with five RBIs.

Friday and Sunday's action will be broadcast live on goUTSA.com (Rowdy Zone subscription required). David Grifftih will call the action in the opener, while San Antonio Missions play-by-play man Stu Paul wlll handle the call in Sunday's finale. All four games also can be followed on Jump TV's Gamewatcher.

Tickets can be purchased at the Wolff Stadium box office (third-base entrance) on the day of the game. Prices are $7 for adults, $5 for juniors (ages 3-18) and $2 for UTSA students (with valid ID).
