Jonas nabs silver at Houston Invitational/Multis


Freshman Aimee Jonas finished second in her first-ever collegiate pentahlon.

HOUSTON ? UTSA freshman Aimee Jonas placed second in her first-ever collegiate pentathlon on Friday at the UH Multis held at Bill Yeoman Field House.

Jonas tallied 3,295 points in the five-event competition for runner-up honors behind Kati Evans of Texas State (3,412). The La Vernia native finished ahead of Kira Robinson of Texas (3,275), Brittani Williams of Houston (3,231) and Danete Wright of Texas State (3,197) in the 12-person field. UTSA senior Kari Michalik scored 2,806 points for 10th place.

Jonas began the pentathlon with a fourth-place time of 9.32 in the 60-meter hurdles and followed that with a 5-3 ? clearance in the high jump for third. She measured 30-6 ? in the shot put for fifth and leaped 16-8 in the long jump for seventh before closing the competition strong with a third-place time of 2:35.41 in the grueling 800m.

Michalik posted marks of 10.09 in the 60m hurdles, 4-11 in the high jump, 33-1 ? for third place in the shot put, 13-10 ? in the long jump and 2:38.23 in the 800m.

The Roadrunners return to action next weekend at the adidas Classic in Lincoln, Neb.
