SAN ANTONIO ? UTSA head soccer coach Steve Ballard and Associate head coach Kristin Boeker announced Tuesday that 12 student-athletes have committed to their third-year soccer program for the 2008 season.
The Roadrunners signed Kacey Cherry (Pearland, Texas/Pearland HS), Hannah Collazo (San Antonio, Texas/O’Connor HS), Katie Dugan (Denton, Texas/Denton HS), Katelyn Fray (Cibolo, Texas/Bryan P. Steele HS), Nico Joergensen (Odense, Denmark/Odense Boldklub), Jodi Leroy (Rowlett, Texas/Rockwall HS), Jackie Nance (Houston, Texas/Langham HS), Steff Ogilvie (Dallas, Texas/Plano HS), Sheri Olayiwola (Pearland, Texas/Pearland HS), Nelle Thomsen (Middlefart, Denmark/Odense Boldklub) and Brittany Wilson (Plano, Texas/Plano West HS).
“We think this is a quality class, both on the field and in the classroom.” Ballard said. “They should be a valuable addition to our team and we look forward to having them join our UTSA soccer family.”
Kacey Cherry (Defender, 5-6, Pearland, Texas)
A four-year letterwinner at Pearland HS ... a three-time District 24-5A honoree (2005-07) ... plays for the Texas Rush club team in The Woodlands ... daughter of Rick and Amy Cherry.
Hannah Collazo (Forward, 5-4, San Antonio, Texas)
Top scorer on her team this season with 16 goals ... a four-year letterwinner at O’Connor HS ... plays for the 90’s Classics Elite club team in San Antonio ... member of the Spanish National Honor Society ... daughter of Wenceslado and Diana Collazo.
Katie Dugan (Midfielder, 5-3, Denton, Texas)
Named Freshman of the Year in 2005 ... a two-time all-district honoree for the Broncos ... team captain in 2007 and ’08 ... collected District MVP honors in 2007 ... helped lead her squad to the 2007 playoffs ... plays for the Aces club team in Lewisville ... member of the National and Spanish Honor Society ... daughter of Richard and Holly Dugan.
Katelyn Fray (Midfielder/Forward, 5-7, Cibolo, Texas)
Named first-team All-District 28-4A and all-area last season ... scored eight goals and collected 12 assists a year ago ... named team captain from 2006-2008 ... earned academic all-district honors in 2007 ... led her team to a second-place finish in district play and to the district playoffs last season ... plays for the SA Lions club team ... member of the National Honor Society ... daughter of Richard and Carol Fray.
Nico Joergensen (Goalkeeper, 5-6, Odense, Denmark)
Played for the under 14-15 Demark National Team in 2006 ... moved up to the under 17 national team a year ago ... plays for the Odense BoldKlub club team ... daughter of Allan Joergensen and Berith Frederiksen.
Jodi Leroy (Defender, 5-6, Rowlett, Texas)
Named District 10-5A honorable mention in 2005 ... two-time first-team all-district in 2006 and ’07 ... hepled the Yellow Jackets to the district finals in 2005 and ’06 ...plays for the Sting White club team ... also ran cross country and was a three-time region qualifier ... garnered English II Student of the Year accolades in 2006 ... daughter of Ray and Cindy Leroy.
Jackie Nance (Midfielder, 5-6, Houston, Texas)
Earned honorable mention all-district accolades in 2006 ... collected second-team all-district honors as a forward during the 2004-05 season ... named first-team all-district last season ... plays for the Texas Rush Nike club team ... member of the National Honor Society and MU Alpha Theta ... daughter of Franklin and Jessica Nance.
Steff Ogilvie (Defender/Midfielder, 5-6, Dallas, Texas)
Played two years for Plano West HS (2004-05) ... helped the team win district in 2004-05 ... in 2006, her squad was bi-district champions ... plays for the Dallas Texans club team. ... daughter of Bruce and Patty Ogilvie.
Sheri Olayiwola (Midfielder/Forward, 5-3, Pearland, Texas)
Earned second-team all-district honors in 2007 ... named team captain first two seasons ... collected the Oiler Award last season ... plays for the Division 1 Space City club team ... older sister, Sara, currently runs for the Texas State Track and Field team ... daughter of Kola Olayiwola and Bose Lawah.
Taylor Padia (Forward, 5-7, Kingwood, Texas)
Four-year letterwinner at Kingwood HS ... a three-time all-district honoree ... named Copa Coca-Cola National Tournament MVP ... her team won Distirct 21-5A and reached the regional finals three years in a row (2005-07) ... also part of the ODP state team since 2002-present ... plays for the Texas Wave 90 club team ... her sister, Rikki, currently play for Texas State ... daughter of Rick and Carol Padia.
Nelle Thomsen (Defender/Midfielder, 5-3, Middlefart, Denmark)
Fellow teammate of Nico Joergensen on the under 17 Denmark National Team ... also played with the under 14 and 15 national teams ... competed four games with under 21 national team and one of those matches was against Team USA ... daughter of Vivi Thomsen and Poul Erik Kjer.
Britany Wilson (Midfielder/Forward, 5-6, Plano, Texas)
Three-year letterwinner at Plano West HS ... was team captain from 2004-06 ... led her club to the Texas Cup finals and were the Texans Fall Festival champions during the 2006 season ... plays for the Sting ?90 club team ... a member of the Junior Honor Society from 2004-06 ... older sister, Kelli, currently plays for Stephen F. Austin ... daughter of John and Janie Wilson.
