SANTA BARBARA, Calif. ? The UTSA women’s tennis team fell 5-2 at UC Santa Barbara on Saturday at the UCSB Tennis Complex.
The Roadrunners (2-4) dropped all three doubles matches to the Gauchos (2-1).
In singles action, UC Santa Barbara won four of the six matches. The Gauchos pushed their lead 3-0 when Asagi Onaga and Tova Hausman came off the court with straight-set victories at the No. 4 and No. 5 slots, respectively. UCSB clinched the match when Jill Damion defeated junior Monika Drabkova 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 3 position.
Sophomore Holly Phillips put UTSA on the board with her 6-4, 7-6 victory over Juliette Mutzke at No. 6. Junior Nathalie Wallin also collected a win for the Roadrunners at the No. 2 spot. Wallin fell in the first set, 6-4, but she regrouped to win the next two stanzas, 6-4, 6-1.
UTSA continues its West Coast road trip with a match at Loyola Marymount on Sunday.
