HOUSTON ? Senior Will Vese and sophomore Teddy Williams registered winning performances to highlight the UTSA men's track & field team at Saturday's Bayou City Classic. The meet, which took place at Bill Yeoman Field House, was the Roadrunners' final tune-up for this year's Southland Conference Indoor Championships.

Vese raced to an NCAA provisional and season-best 7.87 in winning the 60-meter hurdles by 15 one-hundredths of a second. The Houston native, who entered the meet with the conference's top time of the season (7.97), improved that mark in the preliminary heats when he recorded the top time of 7.94.

Meanwhile, Williams crossed the tape in a provisional 6.74 to win the 60 meters by nine one-hundredths of a second. The SLC record holder cruised to the fastest qualifying time when he sped to a 6.83 in the sixth heat of the afternoon. That race was his first 60m effort since setting the league record of 6.66 at the Houston Opener four weeks ago.

Senior Steven Brown stopped the clock in 6.83 in the 60m finals to place third behind Williams. That mark is tied for second in the league standings this season. Brown, who also leads the conference in the long jump (UTSA record 24-7/7.49m), raced to 6.92 in the prelims in his first short sprint race of the season.

In the 800m, sophomore Bryan Ugochukwu circled the track in a personal-best 1:53.56 (No. 5 UTSA history) to finish in second place. That performance improved his second-place standing in the conference rankings.

The two-time defending SLC Indoor Champion Roadrunners take next weekend off before heading to Houston for the fifth and final time this year. The two-day meet is slated to begin on Friday, Feb. 22.
