Women?s basketball adds Davis

Alysse Davis

SAN ANTONIO ? UTSA head women’s basketball coach Rae Rippetoe-Blair announced Tuesday the addition of Alysse Davis, who transferred from Memphis, for the 2008-09 season. She will have two years of eligibility remaining for the Roadrunners.

“Alysse has an excellent shooter’s touch for being a tall player.” Rippetoe-Blair said. “Her ability to shoot the ball gives us an advantage, which in turn, will open up the floor for our interior game. She’s going to have a great career at UTSA.”

Davis appeared in 14 games and made one start this season, averaging 3.1 points and 2.6 rebounds. The Corpus Christi native played one full season with the Lady Tigers in 2006-07. She played in 31 games and averaged 5.4 points and 2.4 rebounds. Davis made 29 3-pointers during her rookie campaign, which ranks sixth on the single-season list among freshmen.

Davis was named Texas Basketball Association of Coaches All-Region 4-4A and also collected 2006 District 31-4A Defensive Player of the Year honors from the Corpus Christi Caller-Times. She averaged 13.6 points per contest, while tallying five games with 20 or more points as a senior. Davis also was a Caller-Times first-team all-metro selection and 2005 second-team All-South Texas honoree.
