BOISE, Idaho ? Senior Steven Brown and sophomore Alton St. Rose broke UTSA’s long and triple jump records, respectively, to highlight the men’s track & field team’s performance at Saturday’s Blue & Orange Classic at the Idaho Sports Complex.
Brown leaped 24-6 ?/7.49m to finish in sixth place and just missed an NCAA provisional qualifying mark by one one-hundredth of a meter. His effort broke All-American Justin Youngblood’s former mark of 24-6 ?/7.48m, which was set during the 2001 campaign.
Meanwhile, St. Rose skipped to a 48-4 ?/14.75m measurement for a sixth-place showing. That shattered the record of 47-9 ?/14.57m that he set at last year’s Northern Arizona Team Challenge.
Their efforts were two of several solid performances by Roadrunners athletes on the day.

Senior Will Vese raced to the second-fastest time of the afternoon in the 60m hurdles when he crossed the tape in 7.98 and also clocked a 7.00 in the 60m to place third. In the 800m, sophomore Bryan Ugochukwu stopped the clock in a personal-best 1:54.76, which was good for third place.
UTSA was just as strong in the field events.
Senior Luke Johnson continued his strong start to the season in thethrows, as he registered third-place showings in both the shot put(personal-best 55 ?/16.77m) and weight throw (53-3/16.23m).
In the high jump, sophomore Marcus Bibles and junior Carvey Evans led three Roadrunners that placed among the top four with their second-place performances (6-7/2.01m). Meanwhile, sophomore Johnathan Whittaker cleared 6-5/1.96m to finish fourth.
