SAN ANTONIO ? The UTSA women’s basketball team collected its third conference win of the season with a 76-53 win against defending Southland Conference Champion UT Arlington on Thursday night at the Convocation Center.

Freshman guard Jordan Stark, who made her fifth start of the season, netted a game-high 21 points on the strength of four 3-pointers, while junior guard Monica Gibbs came off the bench to score 18 points and also dished out a game-best five assists. Freshman guard Whitney York added 10 points and junior forward Onika Anderson pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.

The Mavericks (9-7, 4-1 SLC) shot 40 percent from the floor and turned the ball over 19 times, which led to 25 points for the Roadrunners (11-6, 3-1 SLC).

LaTosha Duffey led UT Arlington with nine points, while Tiffeny Riles, Tamara Simmons and Candice Champion chipped in with eight points apiece.

UTSA carried its first half momentum into the second frame with a 24-5 run to push its lead to 56-32 in the first eight minutes of the stanza. The Roadrunners upped their lead to 23 points (65-42) when Stark connected on a layup with 8:50 remaining. UT Arlington used a 9-0 run over the next 2:49 minutes to pull within 14 points (65-51), but it would be the closet the Mavericks would get the remainder of the game. The Roadrunners ended the contest on an 11-2 run to close out the 23-point rout.

UTSA stormed out to an 11-0 lead in the first two minutes of the first half, as Stark led the way with eight points. The Roadrunners led by as many as nine throughout the frame, but the Mavericks chipped away on the lead and pulled within 21-19 on a pair of free throws by Champion at the five-minute mark. UTSA closed out the half on an 11-6 spurt and took a 32-25 edge into the locker room.

The Roadrunners travel to San Marcos for a conference showdown at I-35 rival Texas State at 2 p.m., on Saturday.
