NATCHITOCHES, La. ? Junior Onika Anderson and senior Amanda Foster both posted double-doubles to pace the UTSA women's basketball team to a 68-62 win at Northwestern State on Saturday afternoon.
Foster led five Roadrunners in double figures with a team-high 15 points and also grabbed 10 rebounds. Meanwhile, Anderson collected her second double-double of the season with a career-high 16 boards, 11 of which came on the offensive end, and 14 points.
Freshman Jordan Stark and junior Monica Gibbs chipped in with 12 and 11 points, respectively, and freshman Whitney York scored 10. Gibbs dished out a game-best seven assists.
The Roadrunners (10-6, 2-1 SLC) dominated the glass with a 49-30 edge, including a season-high 21 offensive boards.
Tena Matthews led Northwestern State (7-10, 0-4 SLC) with a game-high 19 points and a team-best 13 rebounds, while Jessica McPhail scored 14 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the floor.
Ashli Barnum connected on a short jumper to give Northwestern State its only lead of the game at 8-7 with 15:29 to go in the first half. UTSA scored 11 consecutive points over the next 2:46 minutes and made the score 18-8. A layup by Anderson pushed the Roadrunners lead to 11 (31-20) at the four-minute mark, but a Matthews layup cut the deficit to 39-33 at the half.
Northwestern State opened the second frame scoring the first five points to pull within 39-38 at the 19-minute mark, but it would be the closet the Lady Demons would get the rest of the afternoon. UTSA increased its lead to 14 (56-42) courtesy of a 17-4 spurt over the next seven minutes. With 5:43 remaining, Matthews nailed a jumper to make the score 60-52, but Foster answered with a layup to push the lead back to double digits at 62-52. UTSA then iced the game with free throws to seal the eight-point victory.
The Roadrunners return home for an SLC matchup against defending champion UT Arlington on Thursday, Jan. 24, at the Convocation Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
