Softball signee to receive Josh Beckett Award from RBI Foundation

HOUSTON ? UTSA softball signee Amber Anderson (Alvin, Texas/Alvin HS) will receive the Josh Beckett Award presented by the RBI Foundation of Houston this Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Westin Galleria Hotel.

Anderson will be honored for being the top prep pitcher in the Greater Houston Area and is one of three high school players receiving awards from Beckett, a Spring High School alum and two-time World Series Most Valuable Player (2003 and 2007).

“This is certainly an outstanding honor for Amber to receive,” UTSA head coach Lori Cook said. “She has proven she is one of the best pitchers in the Houston area on the field and we’re glad she is being recognized for her accomplishments. We’re also extremely excited that she has chosen to be a part of our program next year.”

Anderson is a left-handed standout at Alvin High School under head coach Carla Newsome. She set school records for single-season victories (28) and runs batted in (37) as a junior in 2007. A three-time all-district selection and the 2005 District 24-5A Newcomer of the Year, Anderson was named first-team all-state, all-Greater Houston and all-district last year. She also played summer ball for the Texas Eclipse under head coach Ken Glass.
