Williams named Southland Conference Men's Athlete of the Week

Teddy Williams

FRISCO ? Four days after setting the Southland Conference 60 meters record with an NCAA provisional 6.66, UTSA sophomore Teddy Williams was named the league's Men's Athlete of the Week on Wednesday.

Williams shattered his own school record when he won the 60-meter dash at Saturday's season-opening Houston Indoor Opener. In the process, he bettered Jared Connaughton's (UT Arlington) former mark of 6.68 set during the 2006 campaign. The Tyler native's time is the third-fastest in the NCAA this year and it reestablished the UTSA mark of 6.71 he set at last year's SLC Championships.

"Teddy is an incredible talent," head coach Aaron Fox said. "It is very good that he got this mark early in the season and it's clear that he prepared himself well during the winter break. He is focused and determined to perform at a high level this year."

The Roadrunners are back in action on Friday when they return to Houston for the Leonard Hilton Memorial.
