HOUSTON ? Led by three top-six finishes,the UTSA women’s track and field team finished eighth with a partialsquad at the Houston Indoor Opener on Saturday at Bill Yeoman FieldHouse.
The Roadrunners scored 19 points foreighth in the 14-team field. Houston won the team title with 141points, followed by Texas (125) and UAB (83).
Sophomore Dana Mecke posted the topindividual finish by a Roadrunner in the season opening meet, placingfourth in the mile in 5:16.06.
Senior Brittany Epps leaped 18-7 ? tofinish fifth in the long jump, while sophomore Jessica Jones clocked an8.84 for sixth place in the 60-meter hurdles.
Sophomore Natalie Squier cleared 5-2 ? for ninth in the high jump, while junior Rikki Gray was 11th with a 5-0 ? effort. Freshman Jayde James took 10th in the 800m with a 2:24.99 clocking, while junior Shanelle Slaughter was 11th in the long jump with a 16-7 ? measure. Freshman Adrienne Bocanegra placed 11th in the shot put with a 35-6 ? mark.
The Roadrunners return to action next Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Texas Tech Invitational.
