Southland Conference announces Commissioner's Fall Honor Roll

FRISCO ? The Southland Conference announced Thursday that 553 student-athletes have been named to the Commissioner’s Fall Honor Roll.

UTSA placed 34 student-athletes on the honor roll. Women’s soccer student-athlete Ezinne Okpo was a CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection, posting a perfect 4.0 grade-point average (gpa) in political science.

McNeese State led all schools with 70 on the honor roll, highlighted by 2007 SLC Women’s Soccer Student-Athlete of the Year Kamryn Koch, who posted a 3.25 gpa in general studies. Additionly, Cowboys football student-athletes David Ballard and Brant Linde were CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selections, posting a 3.67 and 3.73 in gpa's in general studies and accounting, respectively.

Northwestern State had 64 student-athletes on the honor roll, while Stephen F. Austin had 63. For the Ladyjacks, women’s soccer student-athlete Jessica Cotton was a CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection, posting a 3.67 gpa in interdisciplinary studies.

Texas State placed 57 student-athletes on the list, highlighted by 2007 SLC Football Student-Athlete of the Year Nick Clark, an CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection and a semifinalist for the Draddy Drophy, who posted a 3.76 gpa in mathematics. In addition, volleyball’s Emily Jones was a CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection, with a 3.91 gpa in mathematics and business.

Sam Houston State and Central Arkansas placed 55 and 50 student-athletes on the honor roll, respectively, while Southeastern Louisiana had 45. For the Lady Lions, women’s soccer student-athlete Dana Mayer was a CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection, posting a 4.0 gpa in biology.

Nicholls State placed 38 student-athletes on the team, while Lamar added 35. The Lady Cardinals were led by 2007 SLC Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Year Molli Abel, who was a CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection after posting a 3.63 gpa in nursing. In addition, volleyball’s Adrianne Meengs also was a CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection, tallying a 4.0 gpa in general business.

UT Arlington and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi rounded out the honor roll with 23 and 20 honorees, respectively.

Presented by Captial One Bank, the honor roll recognizes student-athletes who competed in league championship sports during the fall semester and maintained a 3.0 semester gpa while enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours. Each SLC institution is responsible in selecting the student-athletes for the fall roll.
