SAN ANTONIO ? UTSA men’s golf coach Chris Donielson announced Thursday the signing of Payne Wilkie to a National Letter of Intent for the 2008-09 season.
“I was equally impressed with the maturity and emotional stability of this young man.” Donielson said. “He will be exciting to watch from a golf standpoint but more importantly, the “between the ears” factor will be second to none.”
Wilkie is a three-year letterwinner at Lake Travis High School and a three-time academic all-district recipient. As a freshman he qualified for state as an individual. The Austin native collected first-team all-district and honorable mention all-region accolades during his sophomore year. In 2007, Wilkie earned first-team all-region honors. He helped his team win the District 25-4A title in 2006 and ?07. Last year, Wilkie’s team placed third at state and he finished tied for 16th with a 71-75=146.
