TULSA, Okla.? The UTSA women’s basketball team saw its six-game winning streak halted with a 78-56loss at Tulsa on Saturday afternoon at the DonaldW.ReynoldsCenter.
Freshman Jordan Stark posted her second straightdouble-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Junior Monica Gibbs added 14points and was a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line. The Roadrunners (6-1)only connected on 16 field goals and shot a season-low 20.8 percent, which setthe school mark for the lowest field goal percentage in a game.
Teka Brooks led all scores with a game-high 18 points, whileLarissa Williams chipped in with 15 and hauled in a team-best 10rebounds for the Golden Hurricane (2-6).
Senior Terrie Davis broke UTSA’s all-time record on herfirst 3-point attempt from the right corner to give the Roadrunners a 3-0lead at the 17-minute mark of the first half. Tulsa took its first lead of the game (16-12)courtesy of an 8-0 run with 10:28 left. Williams led the way scoring six straightpoints during the run. Sophomore Courtney Laing’s layup pulled UTSA to within18-16 with less than nine minutes remaining, but the Golden Hurricane closed outthe half using a 23-8 spurt for the 41-24 advantage.
UTSA struggled from the floor, shooting just 25 percent inthe first half, while Tulsashot 49 percent (18-of-37). The Golden Hurricane also held a 27-16 edge on the boards.
Tulsapushed its lead to 28 points (56-28) when Chanel Johnson made a pair offree throws with 12:41 to go. UTSA cut the deficit to 21 on a breakawaylayup by freshman Whitney York midway through the frame. With 2:01 left,the Roadrunners trimmed the Golden Hurricane lead to 69-50. This would be theclosest UTSA got for the remainder of the game.
UTSA travels to Miami, Fla., for a matchup against FloridaInternational on Dec. 14. Tip off is scheduled for 6 p.m. (CT).
