Davis leads UTSA past Georgia Southern on Saturday

Senior Terrie Davis scored a career-high 24 points on Saturday.


SAN ANTONIO ? Senior TerrieDavis recorded a career-high 24 points to lead a balanced offensive attack andthe Roadrunners women’s basketball team won its fifth game in a row with a72-52 win against GeorgiaSouthern in the final game of the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday.

Davis, who was named to the All-Tournament team, connected on a pair of3-pointers to tie Philicia Ross' UTSA record of 121 career treys. Senior AmandaFoster, who also collected All-Classic honors, added a career-high 16 points on7-of-11 shooting and junior Monica Gibbs recorded her first double-double ofthe season with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Shawnda Atwood led the Lady Eagles (2-4) with a team-high 18 points, whileAshley Rivens chipped in with 13.

GeorgiaSouthern started off the game making 4-of-7 from the field to grab its onlylead of the game at 11-4 with 16:01 to go in the first half. UTSA then tookcontrol of the game with a 20-2 run over the next seven minutes of the frame togive the Roadrunners a 24-13 lead that they would not give up. Davis capped off run with a pair of3-pointers. The Lady Eagles pulled within 10-points on Rivens’ baseline layupwith 2:10 remaining. However, UTSA headed to locker room with a 15-pointadvantage (40-25).

The Lady Eagles opened second half on a 14-3 run to closethe gap to four (43-39) with 11:03 to play. Atwood led the way with seven pointsscored during the GSU run. Davismade a couple of free throws to end UTSA’s scoring drought that last over fiveminutes. A basket by freshman Jordan Stark at the seven-minute mark capped offan 11-5 run to pushed the Roadrunner lead back to double digits (54-44). UTSAthen ended the game on an 18-8 run to put game out of reach at 72-52.

UTSA hits the road for the first time this season when its visits Missouri State on Nov. 29.
