SAN ANTONIO ?Seniors Terrie Davis and Amanda Foster combined for 22points to help the UTSA women's basketball team hand New Orleans its first lossof the season with a 60-46 win Friday night in day one of the UTSA ThanksgivingClassic held at the Convocation Center.
Davis and Foster each scored 11 points for the Roadrunners (4-0), whilefreshman Jordan Stark chipped in with 10 points and hauled in a game-high ninerebounds. Junior Monica Gibbs and freshmen Amber Gregg and Whitney York addednine points apiece. Yorkalso recorded four assists and three steals.
UTSA shot a blazing 45 percent for the game (21-of-47),while holding UNO to 35 percent (19-of-55). It’s the third time this seasonthat the Roadrunners have shot 40 percent or more in a game.
Leading the way for the Lady Privateers (3-1) was Candice McGee with ateam-high nine points, while Brittany Helm posted eight points and two stealson the night.
New Orleansjumped to the early 7-2 lead when Ty Felder’s stole the ball and wentcoast-to-coast with 18:04 to play in the first half. However, UTSA respondedwith a 21-6 spurt to take a commanding 23-13 lead with 10:59 to go. Back-to-back3-pointers by Davis and Stark highlighted the run. The Lady Privateers cut UTSA’slead to four (27-23) on Cookie Johnson’s layup at the six-minute mark. TheRoadrunners ended the frame on a 9-0 run to make the score 36-23.
Foster connected on a layup to give UTSA a 15-point cushion(40-25) at the 18-minute mark of the second half. The Roadrunners then builttheir largest lead of the game at 57-37 courtesy of a 17-9 run that last overseven minutes of the frame. UNO used a late 9-2 run to make the final score60-46.
UTSA returns to action tomorrow afternoon in the final game ofthe UTSA Thanksgiving Classic against GeorgiaSouthern at the ConvocationCenter.
