FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. ? UTSA’s Dana Mecke wrapped up a successful sophomore campaign with a 65th-place finish Saturday morning at the NCAA South Central Regional held on the Razorback Cross Country Course.
Mecke covered the 6,000-meter Agri Park course in a time of 23:04.1 for 65th in the 120-runner field. The two-sport athlete who earned All-Southland Conference honors with a sixth-place finish two weeks ago, bettered the 66th-place effort by Hope Jimenez turned in at last year’s meet by one spot. It marked the best finish by a Roadrunner female at the regional meet since Veronica Silva placed 50th in 2005.
Silje Fjortoft of SMU won the women’s 6k in 20:34.2 ahead of Nichole Jones of Baylor (20:45.5). Rice took the team title with 54 points, while Arkansas was the runner-up (70).
