The Edenvale, South Africa, native then posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over Marco Verdasco from Oregon to collect his first individual title of the fall.

In other singles action, sophomore Rodrigo Morgado advanced to the round of 16 with a three-set win against Pavlov before falling to Arizona’s Peter Zimmer. Morgado dropped the first set, 7-6, but won the second stanza, 6-3, to force a third set. Zimmer downed Morgado, 6-4, to move on.
