SAN ANTONIO ? With junior middle hitter Victoria Prior leading the way, UTSA ended its five-match losing streak with a sweep of Prairie View A&M on Friday night at the Convocation Center (30-16, 30-28, 30-19).
Prior led a Roadrunners offense that hit a season-high .374 with 19 kills and a .708 hitting percentage. The Galveston native also added a match-high four total blocks (1 solo/3 assists).
Playing in its first home match since Sept. 8, UTSA (8-13) came out firing on all cylinders. Prior had eight winners, as the Roadrunners hit .562 in the opening stanza and cruised to a 14-point victory.
The Lady Panthers (11-10), who saw their six-match win streak come to an end, jumped out to a 22-15 lead in the second frame, but UTSA responded with a 12-1 run to take a 27-23 advantage. The Roadrunners held on and took a commanding 2-0 lead into the locker room.
It was all UTSA after the break, as it led from start to finish to complete its fifth sweep of the season.
Freshman outside hitter Kendra Rowland racked up a dozen winners (.500 pct.) and freshman middle hitter Briana Mason collected a career-high 10 (.412 pct.), while freshman Jordan White dished out 26 assists.
On defense, Rowland added a match-best 13 digs for her 10th double-double of the year. Junior libero Audrey Hiser had 12 digs and senior outside hitter Cristina Almeida, Mason and freshman middle hitter Valorie Rogers recorded three blocks apiece.
Outside hitter Tamika Newman led Prairie View A&M with eight kills and setter Laura de la Fuente added 23 assists and a team-high nine digs.
The Roadrunners resume Southland Conference play on Saturday when they travel south to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (4-12, 1-3). First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Moody Fieldhouse.
