KERRVILLE ? The UTSA “A” men’s golf team shot a final-round 290 on Tuesday and finished tied for fifth place at the UTSA Intercollegiate held at the Comanche Trace Golf Course.
Senior Thomas Kearney led the “A” squad with a one-over-par 217 and tied for 15th place individually, while senior Shane Costelloe ended his day two strokes behind Kearney with a two-day total of 219 for 21st. Junior Kyle Collins shot four-under-par 68 on the final day to finish tied for 22nd at 220. Sophomore Simon Merry fired a 79-75-72=226 for the tournament, while senior Sean Burch turned in a 79-70-79=228.
The “B” team finished 10th with a team total of 291-291-308=890. Sophomore Emiliano Martinez led the way with a 12th-place showing after shooting a 71-69-76=216 (E). Meanwhile sophomore Phillip Hui was five-over par for the tournament with a 71-76-74=221, good for 27th. Seniors Nick Olivarri and Philipp Krohn finished tied for 41st (226) and 44th (227), respectively.
UTSA opens its spring season on Feb. 18-19 as it hosts the UTSA Invitational at Oak Hills Country Club.
