SAN ANTONIO ? Junior middle hitter Victoria Prior had a match-high 20 kills and six total blocks (1 solo/5 assists) and led UTSA to a sweep of Southeastern Louisiana on Friday night at the Convocation Center (30-26, 30-15, 31-29).
The Roadrunners (11-17, 3-8 SLC) took the lead for good in the opening game at 7-6, but they had to fend off a late Lady Lions charge to hold on for the four-point victory. Prior and freshman outside hitter Kendra Rowland led the way with five kills apiece, as UTSA recorded a .310 hitting percentage.
It was all Roadrunners in the ensuing frame, as they hit .406 with Prior leading the offensive attack with seven winners. UTSA jumped out to a 10-3 lead and finished the stanza by scoring the final eight points.
The two squads came out of intermission and battled back and forth to the tune of 14 ties and six lead changes. The Roadrunners were once again led by Prior, who racked up eight kills. UTSA looked to be in control of the match with a 29-27 advantage late, but Southeastern Louisiana (10-13, 1-10 SLC) rallied to tie the score at 29. However, back-to-back attack errors by Kalynn Evans and Melissa Jones sealed the Roadrunners' second win in a row.
Rowland collected her 13th double-double of the year with 10 kills and 13 digs, while junior setter Rebecca Hrapmann posted her 11th with a match-high 31 assists and 10 digs. Junior libero Audrey Hiser added a match-best 19 digs and junior defensive specialist Dani Nickle had a career-high 12.
Middle blocker Emily Jordan led the Lady Lions with seven winners and 13 digs.
The Roadrunners host Nicholls State at 4 p.m. on Saturday. All fans will be admitted at no charge as a part of UTSA's Family Weekend celebration.
