The UTSA Roadrunners scored a pair of goals
in a four-minute span in the second half to defeat Central Arkansas 2-0 in Southland Conference action at Farris Field on Friday.
The Roadrunners and Bears were at a stalemate for 59 minutes; however, in the 60th minute, UTSA
(6-7-2, 4-1-1 SLC) broke the scoreless tie when UCA
goalkeeper Heather Joye batted away a shot from freshman Alli Dillon,
only to have it carom to sophomore Kylee Hix for her first goal of the season. Dillon was credited with assist on Hix's goal.
The
Roadrunners added another score in the 64th minute, when sophomore Veronica
Najera struck from 20 yards out, putting the ball just under the
crossbar and above Joye for her team-leading eighth goal of the season.
UTSA
outshot UCA (7-8, 4-3 SLC) 15-12 with a 7-5 shots on goal advantage, and had three
corner kicks to UCA's two. The Roadrunners were whistled for 17 fouls,
while UCA had just eight.
UTSA goalkeeper Kasi Hebert earned
her first win of the season, while making three saves on the night. Najera recorded a match-high five shots.
Joye posted a match-best five saves for the Bears.
UTSA travels to Natchitoches, La., for an SLC tilt against Northwestern State on Sunday at Lady Demon Soccer Complex. The match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
