SAN ANTONIO ? The UTSA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has implemented a new program called “Game Night” geared toward camaraderie between student-athletes and a boost in attendance at home sporting events.
SAAC has selected one home contest for each sport in which members will encourage all of their teammates to attend and to bring one non-student-athlete friend with them. Each “Game Night” has a theme or participants will receive a token gift, beginning with Wednesday’s 7 p.m. volleyball match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi where the group will don black shirts and sunglasses.
The next “Game Night” is set for soccer’s match against Lamar at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2. The theme that night revolves around glowing eyeglasses.
SAAC is made up of two representatives from each sport, cheer and dance teams and the student trainers voted by their teammates. This year’s SAAC officers are President Marshal Davis (Baseball), Vice President Gaston Griffin (Men’s Track & Field) and Secretary Michelle Kowalick (Women’s Golf).
All fans are encouraged to join the student-athletes in dressing for the designated theme nights. Future themes and giveaways will be posted on goUTSA.com.
