Women?s hoops picked first in preseason SLC coaches poll

FRISCO ? The UTSA women’s basketball team was tabbed to finish first in the West Division of the Preseason Southland Conference coaches polls, the league office announced on Monday.

UTSA, which finished 14-16 overall and 9-7 in SLC play last season, collected five first-place votes and received 52 points in the coaches rankings, three more than second place Stephen F. Austin. Meanwhile, Texas State was picked third, while defending Conference Champion Texas-Arlington was tabbed to finish fourth. Rounding out the final two spots were Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Sam Houston State.

In the SID poll, UTSA was tabbed to finish fourth with 42 points, while SFA and Texas State were selected to finish atop of the West Division. The Mavericks were picked third, while the Islanders and Bearkats again round out the final two spots.
